Casting with STS socks

Always cast the foot in the position you want the foot to be in the shoe!.

1. Place the foot on the casting platform to verify the proper position and tape the thin protective rubber strip on the instep.
2. Place the plastic bag over the foot.
3. Make sure that at this point that you are wearing a pair of latex gloves.

4. Open the aluminum bag and remove the casting sock.
5. Place the sock in small bucket of water for approx. 30 seconds.
6. Stretch the tubular sock extensively before placing it on the foot.

7. Apply the sock over the foot with moderate force.
8. Make sure that the toe area is not to tight. Pull the sock back after the sock is over the heel area so the toes are
not placed in a misrepresenting claw or hammer position.
9. Place the foot on the casting platform and let the sock set.
(It is best to have the platform covered in plastic wrap to prevent the sock from sticking.)

10. Mark the cast with a 90 degree vertical line from the lateral side and from the posterior side.
11. Use the cutting tools to open the cast while the cast is still pliable (for ease of cutting). After the opening is made, wait for a few minutes until the cast is fully hardened.

12. Carefully remove the cast and close the cast immediately again
13. When positioned properly, we can verify the desired heel height.
14. The cast is ready to be scanned.
