Customization Options

The following descriptions entail the different options involved in the manufacturing of our custom shoes.

Closures

Types of Closures

Eyelets: available with punch holes (no metal eyelets), standard metal eyelets and D Rings eyelets.

Hooks: available in two sizes.

Velcro: ring and flap closures.

Zipper: not recommended for most styles. By request only.

Toe Boxes

Shapes

Depth

Extra depth boxes: approximately 5 mm deeper than standard toe boxes. Ideal for forefront deformities where contact with the shoe loner may cause friction or pressure concerns (i.e. diabetes, arthritis).

Internal Toe Caps

Carbon fiber toe caps: designed to provide safety for the toes. Recommended feature on safety boots. Available in regular (pliable) and carbon fiber (safety).

External Toe Caps

Designed to protect the leather on the toebox. Suitable for individuals who crawl, propel wheelchairs with their feet or damage the leather of the toeboxes quickly. Available in leather or semi transparent subortholen plastic.

Soles

Types Of Soles

Types of Grip

Smooth: Minimal Grip.

Leather: no tread. Ideal for clients who shuffle, dress shoes.

6/9 mm rubber sole: used when standard component soles not viable. Used on light colored footwear (white, beige) for best color match match with wedge heels. Light weight soling.

Standard: multipurpose, indoor/outdoor grip. Usually a component sole dependent on the footwear style and usage. Good for most weather conditions. Available in black and brown conditions.

Aggressive: lug sole. Ideal for work boots, military styles. Heavy weight and very durable. Available in black only.

Ergonomic and Safety Features

Nail Plate: puncture resistant flexible sole plate built into middle sole of shoe.

Sole Plate: designed to decrease the flexibility in the forefront of footwear. Ideal for partial feet. Used in conjunction with a rocker sole.

Oil Resistant Sole: heavy weight sole designed for industrial use.

Bellows Tongue: wide tongue attached to the boot under the eyelets to reduce the amount of water/debris that can enter the boot.

Padded Tongue: added comfort on the dorsum of the foot. Help maintain a snug fit in heel cup.

Pull Tab: loop at heel for ease of donning footwear.

Please note : We are unable to provide CSA approved footwear due to the nature of individually building of the custom footwear. Contact the employer regarding exemptions.

 
Elevations

Types of Elevations

Location

Internal: elevation is built onto the insert and covered by the upper shoe.

External: elevation is built onto the midsole of the shoe and is visible on the shoe. This is the method used if not otherwise indicated on the work order.

 
Rockers

Types of Rockers

Aggressiveness

Height of rocker at heel and ball:

Mild – 6 mm

Standard – 9 mm

Aggressive – 12mm

All rockers are tapered to 0 mm at toe.

Flares

Internal Supports

Types of Supports

Ankle Supports

Ankle supports are used internally in boot styles to increase rigidity of the boot. Usually used in conjunction with rocker soles.

Semi Rigid: an extension of the heel counter material to moderately increase the support.

Rigid: extension of heel counter to significantly increase rigidity.

Build in AFO: rigid support extends to the midfoot or longer to dramatically increase rigidity. Minimal flexibility of boot (medial/lateral).

Prostheses

Toe fillers are used to maintain the toe box shape and provide comfort for forefoot amputations.

Lisfranc, Chopart and tarsal prosthesis can be built directly into boot styles.

 
Inserts

Types of Inserts

All of our inserts are removable.

Semi rigid inserts are composed of rubber cork and are suitable for most clients.

Soft/Diabetic EVA is ideal for ulcer and pressure relief.

Note: diabetic EVA is not recommended for individuals over 150lbs.

Leather with EVA (blue) multiform midlayer is multipurpose and suitable for most individuals.

Plastizote is specialty foam ideal for clients with a high risk of skin breakdown.

Note: Plastizote is not recommended for individuals over 150lbs.
